We recently treated this very eyecatching Pontiac Firebird Trans Am to a Full Paintwork Correction before it was shipped back to America. Although in very good condition for its age there were a considerable amount of swirl marks that we had to eliminate.
Before we tackled these, the vehicle was to be treated to our thorough cleaning process. The bodywork was treated to ValetPro Advanced Snow Foam. Then after that the alloy wheels were decontaminated, deep cleaned with ValetPRO Bilberry Wheel Cleaner, fully washed and rinsed. After this all of the door shuts and sills were cleaned with citrus degreaser before the whole car was deep cleaned with Swissvax Car Bath. The next stage was to remove all of the tar deposits, then clay bar the vehicle which removed further contaminants such as the embedded iron filings and tree sap.
Once the decontamination stage was complete we set about removing the heavy swirl marks. After measuring the level of paintwork, a single stage machine polish was carried out with our Rupes dual action machine polisher. A Meguiars Microfibre Cutting Pad was used in conjunction with Rupes Course Gel Compound. After inspection, it was clear to see that the majority of swirl marks had been removed but it was still a necessity to machine polish located areas on the vehicle again to remove them completely. Another machine polish was then carried out but this time with a Meguiars Microfibre Finishing Pad and Rupes Fine Gel Compound. This improved the gloss of the paintwork considerably.
After being wiped down to remove all residue the car was treated to two coats of Swissvax Best of Show Wax. The tyres were then dressed and the alloy wheels waxed with Swissvax Autobahn Wheel Wax. They now look shinier than the day they were new whilst also benefiting from being fully protected from brake dust contamination. The glass was then treated to CarChem glass sealant and the final inspection was then carried out. All in all a total of around 28 hours was spent on the car.
