Here are a selection of photographs of the Renault Clio Sport 172 that I recently treated to a Paint Enhancement. The car had not had a lot of use over the past three years and had therefore not seen any wax! This was going to be a relatively big job but definitely the type of job that I revel in!
As per all of our details the vehicle was to be treated to my thorough cleaning process.
Firstly the bodywork was treated to ValetPro Advanced Snow Foam. With this, the car is blanketed in a cleansing foam as a pre-wash to help soften and remove any loose surface contaminates. It is left to dwell for a few minutes before agitating the hard to reach areas with a soft detailing brush.
The alloy wheels were then decontaminated and deep cleaned with ValetPRO Bilberry Wheel Cleaner, fully washed and rinsed.
After this all of the door shuts and sills were cleaned with citrus degreaser. It was then onto the two bucket wash method. Grit guards, lambs wool wash mitts and a premium shampoo, in this case Swissvax Car Bath was used to ensure a safe wash. It is essetial that the shampoo solution bucket remains free from removed grit and contaminates, this significantly reduces the risk of inflicting light surface scratches.
Once the decontamination stage was complete I set about removing the light/medium swirl marks.
Before the machine polishing stage commneced all of the plastics and trim were masked up to protect them from the machine polisher and any residue from the products used. A comprehensive range of paint depth readings were taken from the vehicle enabling me to detect if there was any previous repair work but most importantly giving me an accurate mesurment of the paint’s thickness. This enables me to make an educated decision when selecting the polishing pad and polish combinations. Scratch and defect removal will only be carried out as far as is safe to do so and is carefully monitored using a paint depth gauge.
First up for the Clio was a single stage machine polish carried out with the Rupes dual action machine polisher. A Meguiars Microfibre Cutting Pad was used in conjunction with Rupes Medium Compound. After inspection, it was clear to see that the majority of swirl marks had been removed but it was still a necessity to machine polish located areas on the vehicle again to remove them completely. Another machine polish was then carried out but this time with a Meguiars Microfibre Finishing Pad and Rupes Fine Gel Compound. This improved the gloss of the paintwork considerably.
After being wiped down to remove all residue the car was treated to two coats of Swissvax Best of Show Wax. The tyres were then dressed and the alloy wheels waxed with Swissvax Autobahn Wheel Wax. The glass was then treated to CarChem glass sealant and the final inspection was then carried out. All in all a total of around 36 hours was spent on the car.Tweet
